You Ask - We answer!  Our patients have asked us a lot of questions over the years.  Here we attempt to provide answers to the common ones, but feel free to get in touch if you have anything else you'd like to know.

Specialists in podiatric medicine are experts in all aspects of the foot and ankle. In Ontario, Canada, the undertaking of chiropody by foot specialists is regulated and is defined as “the treatment and prevention of disease or disorders of the foot by therapeutic or orthotic means”. Chiropodists must pass examinations in order to register and practice, undertake annual continued professional development and undergo extensive training at university/post-graduate level. Many have taken seven or eight years of post secondary training before beginning to practice. Professionals registered with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario are the only regulated foot professionals educated exclusively in the assessment and treatment of foot disorders.

At your initial consultation, your chiropodist/foot specialist will conduct a foot assessment and assess the problems or concerns you may have. We will undertake clinical tests or examinations in the office as needed to help assess your problem and develop, with you, a suitable treatment plan. (We may discuss other possibilities which may need ruling out at this stage). We will discuss with you any findings regarding your wider foot health following our assessment, including the circulation, sensation, footwear, deformity, foot posture and skin condition. We will agree on a plan with you and as necessary, will commence our treatment. If you are not sure you will benefit from seeing a chiropodist, why not call now to speak to the reception team who will be pleased to discuss with you any questions.
No, unfortunately, chiropody services fall outside the scope of OHIP. This is like services provided by other health care professionals such as Physiotherapists, Audiologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Registered Massage Therapists and Chiropractors. However, Chiropody fees for the treatment of your foot condition are most often covered by many Extended Health Insurance plans offered by employers We also provide detailed receipts for insurance reimbursement or income tax purposes.
Office visits to us will usually be covered under the heading Paramedical Services - chiropody/podiatry. Other treatments may have specific aspects of coverage. For treatments such as orthotics, compression socks, prescribed footwear or devices look in the benefit guide booklet accompanying your Health Insurance Plan.
No. You can self refer by contacting our helpful reception team and scheduling an appointment or BOOKING ONLINE However, by all means bring any communications from physicians or your family doctor with you or ask your doctor to write a referral to us. You can find a referral form HERE Most physicians in the area correspond with us frequently by referral. Please be advised that some insurance policies may require a doctor’s referral to access your benefits.
On your first visit to The Footcare Centre we ask that you complete our Patient Information Form, prior to arrival and read the Patient’s Consent. You may wish to bring details of your Extended Health Insurance Plan if you require any assistance as we develop a treatment plan for you.
Subsequent visits to the office will depend on our agreed treatment plan. This may include office visits for ongoing management of your foot or footcare, treatment sessions or reviews. The office may include treatments involving one of our areas of special interest or onward referral to other healthcare professionals.
We are delighted to continue to deliver footcare excellence to families across the Niagara region. Please be mindful that in order to achieve our level of service we need to have certain policies and procedures in place. During your time in the office please familiarise yourself with our policies. Key policies include:
  • In order to provide efficient services to all patients our office requires 24-hour notice for cancellation or re-scheduling of appointments. This ensures that we can provide quality, timely services to all patients as efficiently as possible. If it is your first visit to our Chiropody office, we ask that you arrive a few minutes early to complete the Patient Information Form.
  • A fee will be applied for late cancellations/missed appointments. All fees for late cancellations/missed appointments are the patient’s responsibility.
  • If you are late for your appointment you may be asked to re-schedule their appointment for a later time or another day and appropriate charges for the late or missed appointment may apply.
Patient parking is available at the front and rear of the building. For those with disabilities wider bay parking as available at the front of the building with access available through the main front lobby door on the first floor. There is a small fixed fee of $3.00 charged by the parking lot operator, payable on exit by cash, Visa or Mastercard.
We are located in an accessible building that has an elevator, parking for the disabled and ramps for people with wheelchairs, scooters or walkers. There are washrooms for disabled patients in the building.
Yes! We have an automated system that will send an appointment reminder to your home phone, cell/smartphone, text or email address.
We will always work with you to develop the treatment plan that is right for you. However, we are regulated by the College of Chiropodists of Chiropodists of Ontario whose role it is to ensure the public interest is protected. Part of this regulation is to protect the public against over prescribing or enticement to access medical services and therefore our regulator opposes incentives such as deals, freebies or special offers. Our aim is to continually focus on delivering you the best experience and care that we can, while listening and understanding to your needs so that we can help you plan for what is needed.
American Express, VISA, MasterCard, Debit & Cash You can also buy gift cards for your friends or relatives or load our gift cards as a way to plan for later treatments.
We are registered with Telus e-claims. We can direct bill for office visits only, with a number of insurance companies (not all – sorry) with the payment being payable to you. Please check with reception if your insurance company is available for direct billing. You will still need to settle the cost of the appointment with us, but we will send the invoice your insurance company and they will reimburse you according to your plan limits. At present we cannot direct bill for other treatments (i.e. Orthotics). In that instance, we can provide you with a receipt to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
